Accident Prevention

Helping drivers avoid accidents in the first place.

It's obvious. The best way to minimise harm from auto accidents is to prevent the accident from ever even happening. That's why we're dedicated to developing innovative safety technologies for our entire line of vehicles.

Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)

To help drivers maintain control, all Ford vehicles today are available with Anti-Lock Braking Systems (ABS).

ABS provides greater steering control and promotes smooth, straight stops under adverse braking conditions, including most slippery or icy surfaces.

Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)

  • EBD helps provide optimum braking performance regardless of vehicle load by using components of ABS to sense the vehicle's braking requirements
  • The system controls distribution of brake pressure between the front and rear wheels, adjusting the rear brake pressure according to the vehicle load
  • This feature is especially beneficial in trucks and sport utility vehicles which may carry a variety of loads

Traction Control

To help ensure smooth acceleration on slippery surfaces, traction control senses wheel spin and controls the power of the driving wheels. When it detects wheel spin, it reduces power to the driving wheels and prevents loss of control.

AdvanceTrac® ESC (Electronic Stability Control)

  • AdvanceTrac® ESC is an interactive vehicle dynamics system that constantly monitors the driver's steering input and the vehicle's actual direction to help prevent spinouts and fishtailing on tight curves and slick pavement
  • Using the vehicle's Anti-Lock Braking System, AdvanceTrac® automatically slows the rotation of individual wheels, correcting oversteer or understeer, to bring the vehicle back to the direction the driver intended

RSC® (Roll Stability Control™)

  • The RSC® system uses sensors to detect when a driver corners fast or swerves sharply to avoid an obstacle
  • The system then applies pressure to the brake(s) on the wheel(s) on the outside of the turn. This induces understeer and helps keep the wheels firmly on the ground, reducing the likelihood of a rollover
  • RSC® combined with our AdvanceTrac® ESC system can provide ultimate driver confidence in an emergency situation

Remember that even advanced technology cannot overcome the laws of physics. It's always possible to lose control of a vehicle due to inappropriate driver input for the conditions.
